Akola Project

The Akola model has been built from the ground up. A 12-year journey that continues through today. Designed by women, built for women. But flipped on its head. For women who have been forgotten. Who have nothing. But give everything.

We employ nearly 200 women in Uganda to make all of our products. These women come from rural villages, previously lacking a dependable source of income, and often having nine dependents in their home. We are here because of these women. We believe in them, and in the power of the margins.

During our journey we realized that job creation isn’t enough—so we work with our non-profit partner, Akola Academy, to provide holistic programs that train our Akola employees in leadership and financial literacy, and to give them skills that will drive long-term economic empowerment and poverty alleviation.
